Services & Techniques

At Bettendorf Chiropractic Wellness Center, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic wellness care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different services we offer in our practice.

Chiropractic Care/Adjustments

A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally.

The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving function.

Techniques- Chiropractic adjustments can be done in many different ways. The chiropractor will make the decision of which method is right for you, so that your experience will be as comfortable and effective as possible.

-  Gonstead technique- This hands-on technique often involves adjusting the low back or pelvis as the patient lies on their side. Chiropractors use it to realign joints, reduce pain and stiffness, and increase mobility.

-  Activator technique- A handheld adjusting instrument delivers a gentle impulse into the vertebral segments of the spine, or the extremities. The force feels like a light thumping sensation when used to treat everything from low back pain to certain types of headaches, like migraines.

- Thompson, or drop table, technique- This involves a specially adapted table with padded platforms designed to drop a fraction of an inch when the chiropractor applies a quick thrust to make an adjustment. The subtle dropping motion, which patients feel as vibration, makes it very comfortable for most patients. It can be used for the spine or extremities.

-  Diversified technique-Also employed to adjust the spine and extremities, this feels similar to the Gonstead technique. It’s considered the most widely used technique involving very precise hands-on thrusts aimed at restoring proper movement and alignment to the spine.

Massage Therapy

At Bettendorf Chiropractic Wellness Center, we believe that massage therapy goes hand in hand with chiropractic care. While a chiropractic adjustment reduces restrictions in the joints and corrects misalignments of the spine, a massage works the tendons and the muscles of the body.  Together, they reduce inflammation and restriction in your muscles and nervous system, which allows optimal function and communication throughout your body. The LMT’s (licensed massage therapist) are trained in a wide variety of massage techniques and offer therapies in 30 minute, 60 minute, and 90 minute increments.

A therapeutic massage can:

-  Improve balance

-  Relieve neck and low back pain

-  Reduce headache pain and migraine frequency

-  Reduce chronic pain

-  Increase range of motion

-  Improve digestion

-  Improve cardiovascular health

-  Promote feelings of overall well-being

Massage therapy is known to relieve stress, reduce anxiety, relax your muscles, and provide a host of other all-natural health perks.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture, simply stated, is a health science which is used to successfully treat both pain and dysfunction in the body.  Acupuncture has its roots deeply planted in China.  In fact, authorities agree the science is between 5,000 and 7,000 years old.  Acupuncture is the utilization of needles placed in the skin at various locations to relieve pain or affect a body part.  Early Chinese physicians discovered there is an energy network traversing just below the surface of the skin which communicates from the exterior to the internal organs and structures at over 1,000 "Acupoints"on the body.  This energy works in harmony with the body's circulatory, nervous, muscular, digestive, genitourinary and all other systems of the body.  When this vital energy becomes blocked or weakened, an effect in a body system or anatomic location becomes evident.  Stimulation of one or a combination of key "Acupoints" on the body may restore harmony to the affected area.

Cupping

Cupping Therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction to the skin’s surface to reduce pain and inflammation. Dry cupping allows a therapist to apply the cup onto the skin to help circulate blood flow to the area. Multiple cups and multiple areas can be done throughout one session.

Cupping therapy is a great option for treat sore muscles or an injury. It is also used to treat many conditions, such as: neck pain, back pain, arthritis, migraines, high blood pressure and to help lymphatic drainage.

Corrective Exercises

We here at Bettendorf Chiropractic Wellness Center specialize in corrective exercises to assist you with any pain that you may be experiencing. Corrective exercises can help make any pain you are experiencing disappear once they can perform properly. Chronic tension in certain muscles often pull on certain regions of the spine, eventually resulting in a subluxation. Some muscles become tense because other muscles are actually weak and not performing properly or will over compensate for the weaker muscles, resulting in overuse and tension. Corrective exercises will strengthen and correct the irregularities of your body. Most of these exercises are able to be performed in the comfort of your own home. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles or connective tissues that are out of place can also cause pain.

There are also other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. These pains are caused by muscles and tissues that are not properly aligned. Over time, this can cause injury. Feeling aligned will help your body achieve balance and true health.

It is important to do each rehabilitation exercise regularly. Strengthening weak areas and regaining lost strength will have you well on your way to feeling better.

These exercises typically combine stretching, aerobic conditioning, and strengthening exercises. These plans are all customized for your mobility level and pain level. Being able to implement and execute the exercises properly is very important to your entire healing process.

Kinesiology Taping

Taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process. It also provides support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. Kinesiology taping prolongs the benefits of manual therapy administered within our clinic by providing extended soft tissue manipulation. There are many brands of kinesiology tape but in our office, we recommend and utilize RockTape. RockTape is latex-free and wearable for days at a time. It is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)

TENS units are mainly used for nerve related pain conditions. TENS units work by sending stimulating pulses across the surface of the skin and along the nerve strands. The stimulating pulses help prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. TENS units also help stimulate your body to produce higher levels of Endorphins, which are your body’s own natural painkillers.

Sports/Physical Exams

Physicals are completed by our Doctor’s of Chiropractic and done on a cash basis. A typical sports physical includes discussing of past medical and family history, height and weight reporting, vitals (heart rate, blood pressure, etc.) and how medical history pertains to current activity, like asthma, diabetes, allergies and past injuries.

Please be sure to bring all the physical forms with you provided by school or camp. The doctor will need to complete these and sign them.

If you are a minor, you should bring your parent or legal guardian.

Traction table

If you have pain that is in your lower back, or pain that is caused by disc problems, then you may be able to benefit from chiropractic traction therapy. This therapy is used when the chiropractor believes it will be beneficial to gently pull apart the vertebrae slightly.

The discs that are between the vertebrae of your spine are there to provide a cushion so that the bones do not touch each other. The spacing also allows nerves to exit the spine and go to their various organs of your body. When the discs are in good shape, and when the vertebrae in your spine are aligned correctly, you will feel good.

An injury to your back can cause a disc to become damaged, which is what happens when you have a bulging or herniated disc. This often causes direct pressure from the vertebrae to be put on the nerves, which will usually result in pain, but not always.

Chiropractic traction therapy will be used to gently pull apart the vertebrae where the disc is damaged. It is painless. Separating them a little bit enables some healing to take place and pain relief is often felt immediately. This will help the disc to get more nourishment and to begin the healing process.

The team at Bettendorf Chiropractic Wellness Center will carry out a thorough examination so they can provide the appropriate individualized treatment plan for each patient. Our traction table may pair with multiple services in our clinic to give the patient the optimal ability to restore a pain free and healthy life!!
